A lot of restaurants in and around Portland have announced in recent weeks they are closing. Now, you can add Elsmere BBQ & Wood Grill in South Portland to that list.

Owner Adam Powers announced Thursday that Saturday, Nov. 9, will be the last day the restaurant is open.

The South Portland location on Cottage Road first opened on Aug. 17, 2013 and the restaurant later expanded to include a location on Stevens Ave. in Portland, but that location already closed.

"We never could have anticipated the warmth and encouragement the community would provide to us. We thank you all for embracing us with open arms and allowing us to be the cornerstone of the neighborhood," Powers wrote.

He also announced that a new shipment of Elsmere shirts and sweatshirts would be available on Friday for anyone who wants to remember the restaurant.

"From the bottom of our hearts we thank our amazing staff, loyal patrons and the entire Elsmere ownership group for enabling us to live out this amazing dream," Powers wrote.

Other recent local restaurant closures include, but are not limited to, The Muddy Rudder, The Maine Bagel, Joshua's Restaurant and Tavern, Thistle & Grouse and Sisters Gourmet Deli.
